2010 Tournament

The tournament returned to the Bradley Center at Ramapo College in front of near capacity crowds.   After holding off St. Mary last week at Becton otherwise know as “The House of Horrors” for Teaneck, the Highwaywomen were hoping that the monkey was finally off their back as they faced Holy Angels at Ramapo College on Sunday.

But it appears that Holy Angels has given up losing for Lent, holding off the feisty Highwaywomen 59-55 to advance to their 6th title game and their 2nd in the last four years.

Holy Angels got out of the gate early with a three pointer by Nicole Pepe to take a 4-1 lead which eventually turned into a 15-11 lead after one period.  They continued maintain that lead thanks to a balanced scoring attack from Jaclyn Jerkovich (15 pts),Jillian Crawford (15 pts) and Nicole Pepe (12 pts,) and took a 6 point halftime lead

But Teaneck chipped away in the second half with the help of Jakelle King-Gilchrist’s 21 points including four 3-pointers and eventually tied the game at 38.  That was as close as they got.

Holy Angels will now try to upset the defending champions on Saturday for their 6th title since 1995.

In our opener we had a rematch of last year semi-final game between Pascack Valley and Ramapo.   Last week scored here only bucket of the game to defeat River Dell in a very low scoring affair.  Once again this week, Ely didn’t get gong until late in the second half where she scored the bulk of her team high 15 points.   Chelsea Lombardi chipped in with 9.

Pascack Valley was once stifled by a tough Ramapo defense the held the Indians to a mere 8 point in the first half and scoreless in the second period, something that you don’t see happening to Pascack Valley very often.  Valley spent most of the game on the perimeter looking for open shots but they cam few and far between

The Green Raiders were led by Sara Halejian who poured in 23 (she has 53 points in the last 2 games) with Emma Geigerich adding .

So can Ramapo continue their run to a second consecutive title or will Holy Angels get some help from above?
