Tournament Box Scores—Sweet 16
The Sweet 16 has come and gone with 9 of the top 10 seeds, including seeds 1 thru ? are still around.
Pascack Valley became the first top 10 seed to get knocked out of this years tournament falling to Glen Rock 42-30 at River Dell. #6 Pascack Valley hung in their for 3 periods but it was Glen Rock was too much to handle in the 4th period outscoring them 14-4 in their 42-30 win. Jaclyn Carosoto(12) and Jessie (10) Maitner paved the way for the Panthers, while Sara Tucci had 10 for the Indians
#4 Ramapo continued it’s drive for a 3rd consecutive title as they defeated Emerson 64-38. They jumped out to a 19-7 first period lead behind Sarah Halejian and Deanna Devonshuk who scored 20 and 17 respectively. Deanna Eyerkuss netted 21 for the Cavos.
In a battle of middle seeds *8 Paramus Catholic fell to #9 Immaculate Conception 53-50 on their home court It was a close first half with IC leading by 2, behind Kelci Castro who scored 16. That lead increased to 3 and the Lady Paladins couldn't ship away at that. Freshman Alicia Cornett and newcomer Tianna Smith each had 13 for Paramus Catholic
#21 New Milford , the lowest seed to make the Round of 16 fell behind early and never caught up in their loss to #5 Pascack Hills. Sam DeFreese (15) and Victoria Astilero (10) combined for 26 while Pascack Hills was led by Erin Westervelt (16)and Krista La Rezza (15).
Northern Highlands avenged their loss to River Dell in the Lady Hawk Holiday Hoop Jam championship game, by knocking them out of the county tournament 55-48. River Dell trailed by 5 at the half and close the deficit to 1 after three periods. The Highlanders outscored them by 6 in the final period for the win. Highlands was led by Madison Dunbar (17), Tori Balzano (16) and Jackie Reyneke (14). The Lady Hawks were led by Jenna Connolly (14) and Jill McGovern (11).
#2 Teaneck just keeps rolling along with another blowout as they easily defeated (18) St. Mary 86-35. The opened up a 20-17 first period lead that turned into a 24 point advangate at the half. Jakelle King-Gilchrist has 28 while Sara Ismail and Koryn Barret-Lawrence has 14 and 11 for the Gaels.
What a difference two weeks makes. On January 2oth Holy Angles blew out Old Tappan 63-35, but Saturday was a much different story. The Golden Knights played much better today trailing by only 7 at the break and 8 after 3. Megan Reilly who missed last weeks double overtime win scored 25 to lead a 4th period charge but it wasn’t enough as Holy Angels behind Melanie Lockett’s 19 points, held on for a 3 point win.
#1 Immaculate Heart Academy remained the only unbeaten Team in Bergen County kncking off #16 Ridgewood 53-43 at Paramus Catholic. The Blue Eagles jumped out to a 21-8 first period lead and never looked back. He Blue Eagles were led bu Samantha Wilkes (21) and Tara Wilk (12) while Ridgewood was paced by Kelci Smesko who netted 15 in the loss.
The venue moved to Becton High School Next week with the games starting at Noon. Get there early as the gym fills up very quickly...
